What is the difference between 12V and 24V strip lights?

12 volt and 24 volt strips are extremely similar. They look the same, are capable of the same light output, and have identical costs. There are some key differences between the two which matter depending on application. For instance 12 volt strips can be connected directly to your vehicle's 12 volt electrical system. While 24 volt strips on the other hand allow for longer runs, or higher densities of LEDs over their 12 volt counterparts. For the maximum run of a strip see Max Run in the specification table for more information. Read More »

How long of a run can I make my strip?

The Max Run of an LED strip is dependent on two things, voltage and density. 24 volt strips in most instances will give you a longer run than a 12 volt strip. However the LED density of the strip will have an effect on the maximum run. If your install needs to extend beyond a strips Max Run additional power feeds can be run back to your power supply. Please refer to the Max Run spec listed in the specification table of each product information page for specific information about each strip. Read More »

What accessories do I need?

The only thing you need for certain to power a strip light is a power supply. We offer accessories used for installation, such as connectors and aluminum mounting channels. As well as others that add functionality such as such as dimmers, switches, and remote controls. Complete kits are also offered which include everything you need to get started.

How bright is the strip? What are lumens and how many do I need?

Lumens are the measure of how bright an LED strip will be when in use. The higher the lumen rating, the brighter the strip will be. Higher lumen strips are usually better for under cabinet and task lighting. Lower lumen strips are typically used for accent lighting applications.

What is color temperature? Which one is best?

Correlated Color Temperature is the hue, or tint of white to expect from a light source and is measured in kelvin. Lower numbers give off a warmer white that is closer to candle light, and is good for relaxed and cozy spaces. Higher numbers give off a cooler white light that will appear more blueish. While values to the middle of the spectrum give off a more neutral or natural white light that is similar to daylight. Natural and cool white are considered ideal for task lighting.

Nice Product. Very bright. LEDs vary slightly.

Well made reel of LEDs. The color is a very natural, sunlight tone. Not at all blue, but definitely less white than traditional headlights. I took off one star because of two reasons. First, I had two ends that I had to re-solder because the flex circuit material cracked during the installation. The external layer of copper could be a little thicker to help with this. The second reason is because the LEDs are not "binned" as tightly as I would have hoped for the cost. Binning is a process the LED manufacturers use to group LEDs into similar tones. The tighter the binning, the less a human eye can notice the slight difference in tone when looking at the strip of LEDs when lit. Truth be told, it doesn't matter in my application as the LEDs are hidden and provide gentle down-lighting. Just something to be aware of.

Bright and Durable

By far the best flexible LED strip ive purchased. Its very bright and the soldering points are strong. Very easy to work with and the Natural White gives off a clean crisp white light.
Thanks SBL for your great products.

Weather proof visbility

Used red LEDs for rear case on a motorcycle. Brighter than the cheaper LED strips from ebay. Cutting and attaching wires is a breeze. Thankfully the weatherproofing does not make it too think and can be sandwiched in a narrow space.
Things I would like to improve- red could be brighter + more LEDs per segment.

LED's for Radio Control Jet Afterburner...

I wanted LED's to use in the tailpipe of my radio controlled MiG-21 Fishbed Cold War Era Russian Fighter to mimic the look of an Afterburner. The LED's are very bright and can be seen from 100's of feet away when the plane is in the sky. These lights are awesome! I know the way I used the lights is probably not the way most people will use them, but I wanted to let buyers know that I am very satisfied with this product.

Good enough to buy more

Great product! It's been 2 or 3 months now and there still burning bright. The LED's are a nice crisp color and brighter than several I have purchased at other sites. I am very pleased, to the point that I am ordering more. Here's a heads up though, I have found That the amber is a slightly different color amber than most. It's somewhere between amber and red. It is exactly the color of the 2009 toyota tacoma dash lights. Worked out perfect for me! I wanted to match my blinkers but this worked out much better for accent lighting for my interior.
